Development of Clinical-Grade Isolation and Culture Process for Olfactory Stem Cells
With cross-industry cooperation, TOP MEDICAL will design cellular drugs of mesenchymal stem cell for clinical applications to ensure the safety and effectiveness in the future.
We identified multipotent stem cells, called olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) within the lamina propria of the human olfactory mucosa, located in the nasal cavity, these cells have specific stemness that closely related to bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BM-MSC).
●Collect nasal biopsies from middle turbinate of nasal cavity, tissue with specific treatment, then culture in specific medium, OECs will proliferate rapidly into billions of cells in one month.
●After proliferation, OECs demonstrated the expected phenotype for MSCs, positive expression of CD73, CD90, CD105 (≥ 95%), negative expression of CD14, CD34, CD45 (≤ 2%). In passage 3 and passage 10, the phenotype maintains the same level.
●Compared to the adipose derived stem cells (ADSCs), OECs was judged to own osteogenic and chondrocytic differentiation capabilities, but weak adipogenic differentiation capability.
●These results showed that TOP MEDICAL can successfully isolate and proliferate OECs. We proposed a series of testing method to prove OECs have the similar characteristics with MSCs.
